Vocal Cord Cyst

Vocal cord cysts originate in the intermediate layer of the vocal cord, usually from an obstructed mucus gland on the bottom surface of the vocal cord.  After months to years of mucus obstruction, the cyst enlarges and becomes big enough to disrupt the flowing wave and vibration of the vocal cords.

Although voice therapy can help optimize the voice and release tension in the voice, surgery is usually required to remove the cyst.  As with many other vocal cord surgeries, voice rest is required after surgery while the vocal cord heals.
